Is there Life after Death?

Hawthorn pre 1986

I heard of your death today, Mike,
It struck me in the heart,
Like a silver-tipped arrow.
I overheard the principal,
Speaking to some students to do a tribute in your favor.
My friends were amazed when I told them who the subject was,
But the words faded from their minds quicker than it took to dawn
That you were dead.
Yet my mind lingers, seeking the good things you have done,
Throwing away the bad.
Tell me, what is it like after death?
Total nothing, loss of mind and heart?
Reincarnation?
What happens to your dreams when you are dead, Mike?
Did you love?
Did you look forward to life?
Did you want to die, Mike?
Is there life after death?
