Telré 1987
This was in the Marquis 1987, Lafayette H.S. literary magazine. Tevin's point of view of a knight on quest to slay a dragon...
Crouch thou, old friend.
Wings at the ready,
Bunch, then spring,
To join the sky.
Shoot upwards,
Stroking slowly to rise,
Catch a river to soar.
Fold wings, diving,
Pull out,
Level to tree tops.
Tilting, unbalancing,
Spin on tip of right,
Circle left.
Scales a glitter,
Catch the sun,
Splaying it about,
Reflections of gold.
Horned head,
Razor teeth,
Claws, talons,
Gouging at the air.
In these moments thou art free,
A soaring soul,
But they beauty's captured,
And my terror lessened,
And my valor swept beyond me
In a wash of thy wake.
My sword dropped at my side
At the show of a marvel such as you.
And, though not at thy request,
My quest is ignored.
